OAKVILLE, Ont. — You can cancel those plane tickets. There won’t be any need to fly Alan and Ted Fletcher in from Montreal for the trophy presentation ceremony on Sunday.
Golf Canada CEO Laurence Applebaum said during a morning news conference on Saturday that he was thinking of getting the sons of Pat Fletcher, the last Canadian to win our national championship, in 1954, to fly in if it looked as though a homegrown player might finally end the long drought.
Well, that just isn’t going to happen.
