Paul Casey has become such a regular sight on the major leaderboards in the early rounds that he genuinely should be charged some sort of ground rent.

And Quail Hollow, at the 99th US PGA Championship, is no exception with the Englishman shooting a two-under 69 on the opening day.

Casey, the former world No 3, has been in the top ten after the first or second rounds in five of the past eight majors – more than any other player in this period. Admittedly, his best result in this particular time frame has been a tie for fourth in the 2016 Masters, but his inability to turn a fast start into a glorious finish is hardly a unique narrative in the recent history of British golf.
